About PayReckoner

Free UK pay, tax and pension calculators in pounds sterling.

PayReckoner answers the money questions that come with working in the UK: what will I actually take home?, how much of my pay rise or bonus do I keep?, is my pension contribution enough? and what am I entitled to if I go on maternity leave, get sick or am made redundant?

We built it for employees checking a payslip or a job offer, people planning for retirement, parents working out leave, and anyone who employs others or works for themselves. There are 24 calculators, plus take-home pay tables for every salary from £10,000 to £200,000 and hourly rates from £11 to £50.

How we work

Every figure has a source

Tax bands, National Insurance, student loan thresholds, statutory pay and pension allowances come from HMRC, DWP and GOV.UK publications. Each calculator lists its sources, and the methodology page shows every rate in one place.

The maths is shown, not hidden

Calculators explain the formula and include a worked example with real numbers, so you can follow each step and check it against your payslip or HMRC's own tools.

Kept up to date

Figures are for the 2026/27 tax year and were last reviewed in October 2026. We update them every April and after each UK and Scottish Budget.

Private by design

Everything is calculated in your browser. Your salary, pension and other details are never sent to us or stored, and there's no account to create.
